Apprenticeships
Fiber Optic Technicians are the frontline experts responsible for installing and maintaining the backbone of modern connectivity. From mobile networks to enterprise data systems, this role requires a deep understanding of both copper and fiber-based cabling, termination, testing, and splicing. Through this competency-based apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to handle everything from inside plant systems to complex outside plant fiber installations.
Learn how to follow site-specific safety plans, inspect and use PPE and lifts, and conduct lockout/tagout and hazard assessments before every job.
Terminate CAT5/CAT3 jacks, patch panels, and IDC blocks. Install LC, SC, ST, MPO/MTP, and other fiber connectors on multi-mode and single-mode fiber.
Use OTDRs, tone sets, and voltmeters to troubleshoot fiber networks. Identify absorption, bending, and insertion losses across copper and fiber systems.
Perform mechanical and fusion splicing for all fiber types. Prepare closures, trays, and fiber cable for safe, accurate splice work.
Complete detailed paperwork including timesheets, work orders, material logs, and job tracking in compliance with project standards.
Step into one of the most in-demand roles in telecommunications. This program trains you on industry standards for copper and fiber systems, ensuring you’re job-ready to work in high-speed infrastructure and enterprise-level installations.
You move forward as you master skills—from fiber splicing to connector installation and network testing.
Use OTDRs, Fluke testers, tone sets, and splicing tools in real-world installation environments.
