This 4,000-hour, time-based apprenticeship trains you to operate the powerful equipment that builds infrastructure across America. As a Heavy Equipment Operator, you’ll gain hands-on experience with bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, dump trucks, and more. Alongside 482 hours of related technical instruction, you'll learn how to safely and efficiently operate machinery used on construction sites, road projects, and utility installations. From reading blueprints to mastering advanced operational techniques, you’ll graduate ready to dig into a high-paying career.
Train on bulldozers, excavators, graders, and rollers to move materials and prepare construction sites.
Learn job site safety protocols, hazard avoidance, and environmental monitoring standards.
Read civil drawings and site plans to align equipment and plan efficient workflow.
Load, unload, and haul materials using a variety of trucks and machinery.
Perform routine checks, maintenance, and basic repairs to keep machinery operating smoothly.
