This 1 year, competency-based apprenticeship prepares you for a hands-on career in underground utility installation and maintenance. As an Underground Utility Installer Technician (UUIT), you'll be trained to operate heavy equipment, install fiber and conduit systems, read blueprints, and manage job sites safely and efficiently. With 154 hours of technical instruction and direct field mentorship, this program equips you with the skills and strength to thrive in high-demand roles across the telecom and utility industries.
Learn to install conduit, fiber, pedestals, and ground rods through trenching, potholing, and safe backfilling.
Gain hands-on training on backhoes, directional drills, hydrovacs, and other industry-grade machines.
Prepare safe work zones, conduct site briefings, manage hazards, and verify all permitting and safety compliance.
Interpret construction drawings and complete accurate job reports, as-built diagrams, and daily logs.
Operate a wide range of power tools, locators, and testing equipment, including OTDRs and voltage detectors.
Handle, install, and splice fiber optic cable using proper safety, testing, and disposal protocols.
